Blogging Tips Anchor Text
Have you seen on a blog that have a click here that send you to another blog or article? That is an anchor text. According Wikipedia, the anchor text, link label or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink.
The words contained in the anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines.
Why Anchor Text is Important?
Blogger wants to be on high rank on search engine, and anchor text have a high value on search engines, especially Google. Anchor text is the part on link building. Anchor text usually send readers to the related blog or article.
When I Use The Anchor Text?
I used the anchor text when I recommend my readers to visit another article or blog related to my article. It can be my own article or other blogger article’s.
Effective Anchor Text.
I’ve seen a lot of blogger still using visit here or click here when he/she recommended to an article or blog, that mean nothing to the search engines. If you want to take advantage from your anchor text I suggest you to use your destination name, here the example: If you want to get to know me better, please check my profile on Facebook. Its better than If you want to get to know me better, please check my profile here.

Using anchor text is one good thing to do, I never leave a link with out thinking about it’s anchor text, I sometimes check what the blog or the website use to link to it self so I can give most help I can!

In terms of SEO for your own blog, it’s not any different than your keyword showing up anywhere else. Unless you’re linking to your own site/page, using keywords in your anchor text does not help your SEO at all.

Yup. Anchor text should be very much a part of one’s SEO strategy. As you can see, I’ve been using it on my name as well. haha. Sometimes, it gets pretty tiring trying to build backlinks, but since Google still looks at links primarily to rank websites, I guess we really need to keep ourselves busy. =)

I read so many times about using anchor text and yet this is the first time it sunk in. I more often then not say “click here” rather than the destination name. Funny when I write articles and posts I use the destination name, but not when linking to my site. Now I know. Thanks for the insight.

I agree that anchor is very important. I hate seeing sites that have works like ‘more info’ or ‘click here’ as there link text to pages that are important to them. What would be the point of having such words, rather than text that actually describes what it is I’m clicking on. If I want to go see a show times for a certain movie would I click a link that says ‘learn more’ or a link that says ‘show times’. Great point you made here. I’ve shared it with others.

Does it effect the SEO of your blog or only the page you link to? If the latter, is it really only a matter of being nice for the user to know what the link is?
Don’t you think the Wikipedia link in your article should have been to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchor_text
Also, I would normally normally recommend using: target=”_blank”
That way the user still has your page open.
I was also wondering what your opinion is on blogs allowing html or links in comments? Does it encourage spam?

One additional thought… it’s worthwhile understanding the alt and title attributes (especially for non-text links and items like graphics) – note that IE versions prior to IE8 incorrectly treats alt as title
Using the right HTML tags can not only improve SEO, but also the user experience and the “stickiness” of your site.

About anchor text, in the last times, comments on blogs have more SEO weight than, for instance, links on directories listing, the biggest pillar of “old school” SEO.
In each comment you post on blogs related to your niche, you get to choose:
1) a name;
2) a mail;
3) a url.
Once your comment posted, you will get a link to the url you entered and the “name” you chose will be the anchor text for that link.
So, if you post comments for SEO purposes, remember to use your keywords in the “name” field to improve your results.
Just don’ be to “heavy” with the keyword choice, or the risk will be you’ll get your comments rejected. But if you use your blog’s name and it has the right keyword and it goes along with the domain url, it should be fine.
Personally, I’ve never had any issue with that.
By the way, I’m not doing it here, because I know you, and I’m not sure you would appreciate me kinda “using” your blog this way.
