Twitter, Spam

With this article I want to apologize to all my twitter friends, because a Direct Message (DM) from me, actually I’m not send the message by any mean.

A few days a go my dear Friend Dragan from inBulrbs.com send me an email about a DM I send to him, You look funny in this blog….I told him that I’m not sending that kind of message that lead my friend to untrustworthy site or blog and at the same time I receive several DM like that from my twitter friends.

Than I check my twitter and I found I send DM message to all my twitter friend. What a shame. If you talking about reputation here, that DM can ruin my reputation and because I’m sure I’m not the one who send that DM and never will in the future! I hate spam as you do guys.

Spam

Twitter, Spam

I’m sure this happened because I’m using another application from the 3rd party. I’m sure twitter knows that un ordinary activities with DM from few or more twitter account. I try to solve this problem by changed my twitter password and hope this can help me block the 3rd party to access my twitter account and send spam from my twitter account.

OK guys, I hope you take my apologize here. I never send that message by any means. Thanks to Dragan that remind me about that DM :) and for my dear friends here please join inBulrbs fan page on Facebook, you know as I said Dragan save my twitter reputation and now I’m asking you to join Dragan’s fan page on twitter, this  is a way  how I thank him as my friend. Don’t forget to change your twitter password guys. Thanks

I was getting a heap of these from a lot of my Twitter followers. It seems to be passing though cause I haven’t had one in the last couple of days now.

Latief, Try not to let this bother you too much — you’ve take the right actions and apologized. We’re all a lot wiser now. I received one of those DMs from someone (“you’re mentioned in this article”) and knew immediately it was a hijacking. I notified the person who has the account. Actually your real friends know you’d never send such a note.

With the article I hope my friends on twitter really understand that I never send messages like that and hope I can remind all my friends to change twitter password and using just trusted apps :)

Yes, and trust and reputation online has become the most important asset!

Therefore we all have to take big care about to whom we give our permission to access our online apps.

99.9% of the services which access our apps are trusted web services and can help us with our reputation because they help us to spread our content through the web.

We have to take care to sort out the one who are careless with our permissions and to name them so that anybody knows and is warned to register with them.

Also we have to take care of our online friends to help protect them, and if we see unusual behaviour to inform and to warn them that anybody is abusing their trusted name.

One good service to help to protect your reputation and to monitor what’s going on is Google Alerts [http://www.google.com/alerts], where you can set your name, your domain name and further keywords to be monitored and you get an email when one of the set keywords is mentioned online.

Another great source is Google Blog Search [http://blogsearch.google.com/]; here you can type in your name, your domain name and further keywords to see what comes up.

  3. I had that same experience too and what’s worst is that the DM is asking for some solicitation because according to my email, my dad is having a severe operation where we need a lot of money for his operation. Screw that person who used my account and asking for money!!! So, I changed my password and every now and then I do change it. Sometimes, I don’t wanna use Twitter anymore because of that incident. Tsk, tsk. it is my name not theirs.

  5. Have not received one from you. I have received from other people though. I think it is just a shame that people do this rather than find something better to do. It makes things more difficult for others, including Twitter.

dear friend, I also got same message from you “You look funny in this blog” but I don’t reply. Now I understand that it is spam message. But I understood that you could not send those kind of message.

  12. Latief — I don’t know you that well, but I did receive that DM spam. I just deleted it because for the short time I have been following you, it was an odd DM to begin with. When I received it a 2nd time I knew for sure that it was spam.

My rule of thumb: When in doubt, delete it and press on. And whatever you do, DON’T Click on the link!

Glad someone told you and it was an easy fix.
