Yahoo! A Community Killer?
Last Year Yahoo! Closed Down Geocities, free service from Yahoo! for blogger. Now Yahoo! will close MyBlogLog. I heard this news first time last year but there no definitive time when Yahoo! will stop free service for blogger, a blogger community, MyBlogLog.
I think we all have at least an account on MyBlogLog. MyBlogLog is one of a great place to promote my blog and having data of my blog activities. Yahoo! will stop supporting MyBlogLog at the end of this month, January 2010.
MyBlogLog is a service that shows blog writers and readers the faces and profile information of other MyBlogLog users that visit their sites.
Yahoo! has let the service atrophy for years and will now put it to rest. To think that this service offered publishers and developers access to personal, demographic, taste and activity data of a website’s readers – and yet that offering has in the end gone no where – that’s downright crazy.
Looking at the ecosystems beginning to form around Twitter, Facebook and other user data – MyBlogLog may just have been ahead of its time. The service isn’t alone among potentially world-changing technologies acquired and then starved of support at Yahoo! We’ve asked Yahoo! for comment and will update this post if we receive any.
Still there a chance that Yahoo! not closing down MyBlogLog, there is always an option. I just hope that Yahoo! keep MyBlogLog alive. If Yahoo! still closing down MyBlogLog, can I call Yahoo! a community killer?
A big question here, will Yahoo! do the same thing to Flickr and Delicious?

Yes, its the right time to create a new blogger community bro.
For yahoo, it is all about business. If they find the social community do not give revenue, they surely will kill it. That’s how business run in my opinion.

Yes, business can be so cruel bro. I think Yahoo! have a hard time so they can’t support MyBlogLog anymore.

Yes I think there something wrong with Yahoo! management this day.
Yahoo closed free site Geocities last year so they can close anything if they think it is not profitable. I recently published an article Why We Should Avoid Free Website? Here I described details about free & paying site difference.

Yes, that’s why I choose to have my own domain Ahsan. Just in case Google closing down blogger, lol!
Holy Eucharist! That really stinks. It doesn’t look that Yahoo is going down the drain, but this is definitely bad news for people who are really active on MyBlogLog.

Yes, I started promote my first blog on MyBlogLog. I hope there will be another alternative than stop the service.
Yes Yahoo is just thinking about profitability of himself while Google thinks for both for us and for himself. That’s why Google is rocking every where.

Yahoo! should learn how to manage business from Google, where you can mix free service as social responsibility and make profit to make you rich, lol!
Very interesting I had no idea, have you found bloglog more beneficial then blogcatalog?

May be they not consider about the social service as a source of business like Google did with blogger to placed Adsense. I have visitors and traffic from MyBlogLog if as was active using my MyBlogLog, and monitor my blog from the statistic that MyBlogLog provide for everyblog
Thanks Hesham for the comment.
Yahoo had a big big purpose why they will do such thing. What would happen to the world of blogging? and what would we do for it?
I haven’t knew regarding this news and it is quite alarming.
Let’s wait and see
hope they have a way out. Thanks for the comment.
I was not sad to see geocities go. That was a blighted internet property that was chalk full of ads, and it made the sites on there so ugly. You can do the same thing on blogger, wordpress, and countless other sites now that you could do on geocities. Let us remember geocities for what it was a pioneer for giving free webspace so individuals could make their own webpages. Mybloglog on the other hand is a little different. I think it still has usefulness and isn’t outdated quite like geocities was. I will be sad to see MyBlogLog go if that is what its future is.

Yes, I’m not familiar too with geocities but still thousands users there with Geocities. MyBlogLog still one of the biggest community on the net where blogger can meet each other and give a free statistic data for blog performance
Thanks for the comment.
That is a shame if they are closing it. I don’t go there often but it looks like a great site and I do have a profile and my info up there.
Diane
Yes, this is a bad news for bloggers and their readers. MyBlogLog is a great placer where bloggers and their readers met. But soon MyBlogLog is gone.
Thanks Diane
I am sad to hear this because I have finally started effectively using MyBlogLog and have build my communities there. I guess I should delete my badges from MyBlogLog since they’re taking up space promoting a service that will soon be gone.
